Cibo et Vino, a new deli in town that is not so new after all!
In Athens just off Kolonaki square at the posh and stylish corner of Kapsali St. & Irodotou there has been Maison du Fromage – a deli institution for nearly 40 years.
I used to go there for the best Israeli Turkey breast in town and the nicest selection of panettoni to be found in the city.
This Christmas this little shop – Cibo et Vino – has literally haunted me wanting to go back again and again..You see Athens is not a great place when a delicatessen lover, everything which is imported is overrated and too expensive, so when I find something that is worth it I grab into it.
So the great news is that Maison Du Fromage has now become Cibo et Vino under new ownership and it certainly looks and tastes supreme.
The orientation is now more Italian rather than French, the prices have fallen where the selection has become greater and more refined.
My personal favourites:
The pecorino cacio e peppe with pear, the caprino cheese, the really nice speck and Italian breast of turkey.
