WHAT: The Excelsior 5 star, soft-luxury, boutique hotel, “lives” in a neoclassical, state-of -the-art building which was initially built in 1924 by French engineer, Jean Joseph Playber and architect, Eli Hassid Fernandez.
Nicely preserved throughout the years, it got beautifully restored into the hotel it is today in 2009 by the Tornivoukas family – hoteliers since 1926 who at that time owned Hotel Mediterranée – just a stone’s throw from the Excelsior – which was torn down in 1978 due to earthquake.
The Tornivoukas family, 2nd generation hoteliers today, also own City Hotel, Eagles Palace and Eagles Villas in the Chalkidiki Peninsula.
WHERE: Located right in the commercial and financial centre of Thessaloniki, less than 5 minutes away from Aristotelous Square, in the heart of the best shopping area in town.
WHY GO: For its location, the home-away-from home feel to it, the contemporary and individually designed suites with the art deco balconies and neoclassical full-length windows.
It definitely feels like your home in Thessaloniki, it could also be ideal for business people due to its proximity to all the meeting spots and its conference room.
PIECE DE RESISTANCE:
- The service is impeccable. Every single person of the staff will make you feel at home in a very professional yet genuine way. They will go the extra mile without even you asking.
- Charlie D Brasserie, a modern all-day brasserie where you will want to hang out in there the whole day because of its warm ambiance, the consistency of its quality food and the bespoke service.
Great breakfast, laid-back environment, people-watching, they serve brunch at weekends and high-tea certain Sundays of the month, ideal for a cozy, jazzy, dinner-date on a week-day
