WHERE: The Winter Garden, at Grand Bretagne Hotel, Athens
WHAT: Afternoon Tea served from 12.00-20.00
WHY GO: It is one of the few lobbies and lounges in the city of Athens that resemble the likes of Grand lobbies abroad
with high ceilings, majestic interiors, exquisite tapestry. The epitome of old school elegance .
It serves high tea and most probably it is the only place that does so in Athens.
WHO GOES:
Hotel Guests, business people, smart-looking crowd, 40s+

Tea is served. Grande Bretagne Hotel Athens
Review
I will start this review by expressing the long-term drama of my life:
Why on earth Greeks and particularly Athenians do not visit hotels for tea, coffee, lunch or dinner?
Athens is definitely one of the few capitals where the locals feel intimidated by having coffee or tea in a hotel lounge, instead they stick to their local coffee shop.
To me, this is obsurd!
Picture that:
You are in the heart of Athnes’s commercial & shopping district which clearly lacks the sophistication of Paris, London or Rome.
Why would you pick, having your tea, lunch or coffee in a smoked filled cafe rather than in a 5 star civilised hotel lounge environment where you are going to have top service, good quality foodand people watching crowd.
Having said that, I go back to Grande Bratagne’s afternoon tea.
You can walk in anytime with or without a reservation.
You will be served a few savoury sandwiches, scones, macarons, tartlets and tea of course from the Winter Garden’s selection
28 Euros with tea or coffee
38 with a glass of champagne
TIP: A further selection of sandwiches is needed to have a more balanced tea and give justice to the price charged
