Introducing the Chess hotel.
In Paris, slick hotel, cool location.
What is not to love in a monochrome-themed hotel with checked black and white details here and there and very fashion-forward aesthetics?
The chess hotel located in the good part of the 9th arrondissement seems like a very up-to date solution for the traveller who:
Loves boutique hotels
Likes to be at the centre of cultural Paris
Is fond of contemporary, minimal spaces.
We are talking about, 4 stars, 50 rooms, 11 on each differently coloured floor. All different and all calm.
The duo of well known architects Boissier and Gilles have designed everything ad hoc from the lighting fixtures to the beds, from the curtains to the work stations staying true to their taste and specifications.
The Chess hotel is neither an art-hotel nor a gallery-hotel. “The Chess Hotel” is a very Parisian hotel juxtaposing the original decor with works by invited contemporary graphic and fine artists to create a modern vibrant atmosphere. Gilles & Boissier enjoy working with three artists for both their“public” and private projects: Alix Waline, Victor Ash and Cyprien Chabertwere all involved in the decor of the hotel.
Waline decorated the entrance with an all-encompassing mural. Ash created the owl mural in the first-floor lobby with its black and white tiles up to the molding. Immense. Hypnotic. Symbols – the night, the protection of those who sleep there, and that of yang.
And finally Chabertwere created the botanical murals of the inner courtyard, the graphics of the carpets in the corridors anda very discreet entry into the bathrooms.
Now moving to the Food part, I was delighted to see that the hotel stays true to my Parisian way of living serving from breakfast to tea and apperitivo!
The ¾ PETIT-CHESS every morning from 7am onwards serves breakfast open to hotel guests or to outside guests, with two menus – one for 22 euros in the form of a generous sweet/savoury buffet which offers a wide selection; the second for 10 euros, more Parisian style with a choice of hot beverages – coffee, tea, herbal teas, chocolate – plus a “viennoiserie” pastry and fresh fruit juice.
The ¾ CHESS-TEA every afternoon serves, high tea from 3pm to 6pm with my favourite selection of “Mariage Frères” teas and sweet temptations in the form of delicious Popelini choux pastries and other delights.
Enjoy your stay, this is definitely an add -on to our 2015 little blackbook for new entries in Paris.
