So who is the chef behind the brand new Hell’s Kitchen coming on your screens January 14th?
Talk about timing!….
Just before it was announced on the French media that Michelin star chef Arnaud Tabarec would feature on Hell’s Kitchen I was privately dinning with the man himself at his restaurant in Cannes.
I 1st tasted his food a year ago at Sea Sens restaurant on the top floor of the Five Seas Hotel in the French Riviera.
A very contemporary 5 * boutique hotel, probably the most design-forward in Cannes housing a Michelin star restaurant on its beautiful roof terrace where Arnaud creates one of the finest modern french cuisine on the French Riviera.
This year when I went back we sat and dinned together, allegedly, it was the 1st time in 2 years he had sat down to dine in his own restaurant.
Arnaud is only 34 years old, he comes from a humble background and he sure appreciates the goodness of raw materials coming from the french terroire.
His food has certainly not reached its peak yet but has its own identity and the chef knows how to work wonders even with the simplest ingredients in hand.
His cuisine is quickly evolving, his fame is spreading but he remains grounded, laid back, fun to discuss but without lacking direction and orientation.
We chat, eat, chain smoke, laugh, he talks about his wife and baby, the quite life on the French Riviera during winter – but still – he is exciting, you can see a twinkle in his eye, an uncompromising spirit, an ideal candidate for Hell’s kitchen WITH culinary background and substance
It is evident: he knows where he is going and where he came from.
We discuss about the importance of having earned a Michelin star and then being asked to do TV.
What a difference that makes! To pay your dues first, gain and maintain a star and then be thrown to the public!
A public that will sure love him.
